Storing homeschool books

Storing books.  Each year when I'm done with school books for the year I get a big, clear, plastic bin, put the books in it and label it.  

Here are some examples of the labels:

* "SL Core 1- that's the old title for Sonlight curriculum.

* "TOG Year 1"-  (Tapestry of Grace Year 1)

* "TOG Year 1 U1 & U2"-  (Unit 1 & 2)

* "TOG Year 1 U1&2 LG&UG or D and R"- as my kids got older I had to add the junior high and     high school books too, so it's easier to separate those (lower grammar, upper grammar, dialectic and rhetoric) for the TOG books.

* "Supplementals"- these are books like math, science and language arts that I'll use again but aren't in the core curriulum.  

* I may add separate bins for math, science and language arts since the bin is full now.  I can keep the "supplementals" bin for fine arts, etc.  I reuse many of the same math and science programs so that's how/where I store them.

That way when I go to look for books in subsequent years I can go directly to the correct bin and pull out the books.  

Also, TOG uses many of the same books that Sonlight uses so if I know I have that book already I don't order it and when I need it I go to the SL bin and then put it back in there when I'm done.  Somehow I know almost all of the books that I have in the SL bins from Core K-Core 4 (kindergarten through 4th grade).  

 It really adds to our weight allowance when we move (the military only pays for certain amount of weight) so we may need to pay to move some of the books.  It's an additional school cost.

In this house they are in our attic.  In the last house in the basement.  In the house before that, in the garage.  They are always accessible.

It's also the beginning of Spring Break.  We decided to skip church.  Yup.  I think we're going to do that every year when we turn the clocks forward.  I wish I would have thought of that about 20 years ago!  So Steve and I took Levi and Darby (the Golden Retriever) on a walk.

Well, it's a quasi spring break.  Luke and Josh still have History and Literature, Josh has Spanish and Luke has Logic this week.  Those are their online classes and their spring break is a different week. It will make a lighter week this week and a lighter week when the online classes have their spring break.  The rest of us will do a little history and some math this week.

We start school after spring break there are only about 11 weeks of school.  That is so hard for me to believe.  Usually I can't wait for the summer, but this year has seemed to go sooooo fast and I am actually a little sad that it's coming to an end and the kids are getting...older.....too fast.

When we left for a walk today we found this unique moth on a scooter outside....it looks like the bedspread Caroline wants!
